DO NOT BE CONFUSED
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20 NKJV
“America has created a state of mood which is dangerous for the world. In order to buy and sell men like cattle, one had to pretend they were cattle. Being Christians, knowing it was wrong, they had to pretend it was not done to me but to animals. What has happened is that Americans, which used to buy and sell Black men, still isn’t sure if they were animals or not.” James Baldwin
My wife used to tell our children when they were rebellious: “Don’t be confused!” The great American tragedy is the confusion of slavery. It was evil, inhumane, sin! The first sin can about over confusion when the serpent called wrong right. That is what happened with slavery. Christian men called wrong right.
Confusion is happening today as sinful political men leading government use their positions, power, and wealth to call injustice justice and hatred patriotism. White supremacists are called good people and protesters for justice anarchists. Some deny the existence of systemic racism. Others honor the Confederate flag and statutes of its generals who fought to separate from the United States to maintain slavery. Many give their loyalty to a president that seeks to divide our nation rather than unify it. They are confused about what is right and righteousness. They call evil good and good evil.
Prayer: Father, turn this nation around from confused history, confused standards or righteousness, and confused leadership. We petition you to reverse this moral sickness in our country. Raise up voices to speak truth to power so that confusion will cease.
Amen.
