WE SHALL OVERCOME

“I have told you this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NLT

The anthem of the Civil Rights Movement 1960’s was the song “We Shall Overcome.” Here are a few lyrics:

We shall overcome, we shall overcome, we shall overcome some day Oh, deep in my heart I do believe, we shall overcome someday

We shall all be free, we shall all be free, we shall all be free some day Oh, deep in my heart I do believe, we shall all be free someday

As black people, we must embrace what Jesus told His disciples. We can be courageous in the face of oppression, racism, and discrimination because Jesus our Lord and Savior has overcome the world and through Him, we are overcomers.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to see ourselves as conquers of any opposition we face to our freedom. Remind us that You have put in us Your Spirit, and it is greater than whatever and whoever we come up against in this world. Amen.
